The Black family was a pureblood wizarding family with bigoted ideas about the importance of blood purity, and Phineas Black was no different.
After his studies at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he became a Hogwarts professor, and eventually, he was appointed the position of headmaster. He wasn’t very popular there as he harbored a great dislike for the students.
In the Harry Potter Series
After his death, his portrait was placed in the headmaster's office at Hogwarts, with portraits of the headmasters before him.
This portrait was featured in the Harry Potter series, as Black could travel between his office portrait and his portrait in 12 Grimmauld Place to pass messages. His portrait is quite rude and intolerant, using slurs like ‘mud blood’ and speaking badly of his great-great-grandson, Sirius.

Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world role-playing game, available on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. It is set in the wizarding world, and in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, in the 1890s.
You begin the game as a fifth-year Hogwarts student, becoming a witch or wizard and developing your dueling skills.
There are many quests to complete along the main quest line to complete the game, but there are also a lot of side quests to help you explore the magical world, as well as some fun assignments from the Hogwarts Professors.

The Polyjuice Plot
The Polyjuice Plot quest is part of the main quest line. It is a fun quest in which your character must obtain some Polyjuice Potion from Professor Fig. Drinking the Polyjuice Potion will turn you into the disagreeable Headmaster, Professor Phineas Nigellus Black.
As Professor Black you must try to gain access to the Headmaster’s office, which requires knowledge of the Black family motto. You will be directed toward the great hall to find a house elf named Scrope, who is in the service of Professor Black. He will tell you the password if you speak with him. The password for the office is the Black family motto.
What is the Black Family Motto?
When you speak to Professor Black’s house elf Scrope in the great hall, he will quiz you on the Black family motto, which you, as Phineas Nigellus Black, should know. He will ask you what the Black family motto is and present you with three answers to choose from. You can pick any of these, the wrong answer will lead him to ask again, so no harm done.
The correct answer is easy to figure out if you know the history of the family’s reign and their obsession with blood purity.
When you answer correctly, Scrope will tell you that the motto is “Toujours Pur”, which is French for “Always Pure”. Black family motto Toujours Pur will allow you to gain entry into Black’s office, and you can continue to the next quest.
